Government of Canada Syrian Family Links Initiative: Connecting Syrian family members with sponsors

Many members of the Syrian community in Canada want to sponsor family members to come to Canada, but not all have the financial means. At the same time, many Canadians want to sponsor a refugee, but do not know a specific refugee to sponsor.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) partnered with Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) to help reunite members of the Syrian community in Canada with family members who are refugees but do not have the means to sponsor them.

Get involved by identifying a Syrian family member who is currently in Lebanon, Jordan or Turkey, and looking to come to Canada.  If you are a Canadian or Permanent Resident who is ready to become a sponsor, provide your information to help connect your sponsorship group with an identified family member.

Quebec is responsible for its own Private Sponsorship of Refugee program. If you are from Quebec, contact the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Diversité et de l'Inclusion.

Identify your Syrian family member for sponsorship
If you are a Syrian Canadian or Permanent Resident, you can provide the information about any Syrian family member, but each family member will need to be entered separately.

If your family member is connected with a sponsor, and it is determined not to be a good match, you do not need to resubmit the family member's information.

Become a sponsor
Canadians and Permanent Residents may be able to sponsor a Syrian family member of someone in their community.

When a family is connected with a potential sponsor, family members in Canada and potential sponsors will then be responsible for discussing general terms of sponsorship and how they would make the sponsorship work.

If all agree on the general terms of the sponsorship, complete an application to the Private-Sponsorship Refugees (PSR) Program.  The application will be processed as any other PSR application.

Register your sponsorship group if you are ready to begin the process of becoming a sponsor.
